Home of the Rested

Saturday night was quite an unexpected good time. Maybe too much of a good time. I was feeling the effects of it yesterday. Staying out until 4 AM can be very fun, and it almost always is very fun. Until you wake up the next morning wishing you wouldn't have stayed out so late. So yesterday I took a much needed day off. here's the run down of my day yesterday:

12:00: Woke up, ate Chef Boyardee Mini Ravioli, watched Top Gun. Took four Advil to get rid of the pounding headache I woke up with.

1:15: Watched the NHL Skills Competition I had recorded the night before. Very awesome. Zdeno Chara is a beast. he shot a puck at 105.9 MPH, and in case you don't know, that's very very fast.

3:30: Finished watching the skills competition and started watching the NHL All-Star game. Once again, very awesome. It was great to see Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith, and Dustin Byfuglien on the same team again.

6:00: Finished watching the NHL All-Star game. Patrick Sharp won MVP. Great way to represent the 'Hawks. Started watching the NFL Pro Bowl. I say started because I didn't finish it. It was incredibly boring.

6:15: Flipped over to ESPN2 to watch the Australian Open Men's Final. Which is tennis for those of you who don't know. The first set was great. Novak Djokovich and Andy Murray were going back and forth. Djokovich took the first set and didn't look back.

7:15: Starting flipping back and forth between the tennis match and Star Trek. I've never been a Star Trek fan but that movie is great. I am eating three corn dogs for dinner.

8:30: Fell alseep on the couch watching the tennis match. After the first set it wasn't very exciting. Djokovich was in control the entire time. Murray didn't put up much of a fight in the last two sets.

9:15: Woke up from my nap. Djokovich won 6-4, 6-2, 6-3. The NFC won the most boring Pro Bowl ever.

9:45: Went to Wal-Greens to get some more heartburn pills. I also bought a pint of Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream.

10:00: Watched a little bit of Get Smart(the movie) on TBS. Came to the conclusion that Steve Carrell is one of my favorite actors and Anne Hathaway is very beautiful.

10:30: Starting watching Get Smart(the show) on DVD. Ate my ice cream while watching it. I love the old show. The jokes they make are hilarious. Take one epsiode where the villain is called "The Claw." He is asian and Smart calls him "The Craw". Still very funny even today.

11:30: Still watching Get Smart, I love this show.

1:30: I decide I've watched enough Get Smart for one night and went to bed.

If you wake up with a hangover and want to know how to get rid of it. I would suggest doing something similar to that. I sat around in sweatpants all day watching the television. I dare you to try to find a better cure for a hangover.

Home of the Unemployed

My temporary job proved to be just that, temporary. If only the Jets would've won last week I'd still have a job. I knew Mark Sanchez wasn't good for anything. So now I am back where I was two months ago, unemployed. Although this time things will be different. Last time I kind of took a lackluster approach to finding a new job. By lackluster I mean in the two months I was unemployed I applied at two places. Not this time. This next week will be devoted strictly to finding a new job. I need to work, I need the money. I can't just be sitting around like a bum all the time. I can't go back to staying up all night and sleeping all day. It's exhausting and it's not fun at all. I will work again very soon, I know it.

I love the NHL. I know the four-letter network doesn't want to take it seriously and treats as a joke, but I love it. They have created a new All-Star format this year that is great. Fans voted for some players, while players and coaches voted for the others. After the players were announced the players then voted for two captains. The two captains picked two alternate captains. They then had an All-Star Fantasy Draft last night. The two captains and their alternates picked players one by one to be on their team, playground style. I loved it. I thought it was a lot of fun to watch. After the draft one team has Patrick Kane, Jonathan Toews, Duncan Keith, Dustin Byfuglien, and Martin Havlat. All of which play for or have played for the Blackhawks. If only they could have gotten Patrick Sharp as well. The new forum the NHL came up with is brilliant. I would love to see other sports such as baseball or football give this a try. A tip of the hat to the NHL for coming up with this. The skills competition is tonight I would advise everyone to check it out. It's really cool and a lot of fun.

Well it is Saturday so I'll cut it off there and go back to watching the Stand-up Showdown on Comedy Central(by the way, I don't know what it is about female comedians, but they just are not funny, ever). Have a great day and I'll see you tomorrow. Goodbye.

Update: Turns out I was wrong when I said there are no funny female comedians. There is one exception to the rule. her name is Iliza Shlesinger. She is hilarious. She is gorgeous. I want to marry her. That is all.

Home of the Office

In case you didn't know, I am a huge fan of "The Office". And two very exciting things happened this week that I feel are noteworthy enough to write about. Foist, Will Ferrell will join the show for four episodes at the end of the season. Second, Ricky Gervais made an appearance in last night's epsiode as David Brent, his character from the British version of the show. I love that Will Ferrell will be going to Scranton. I am actually kind of surprised it took them this long to get him on the show, after all Matt Damon was on a bunch of episodes of 30 Rock. The Ricky Gervais appearance was awesome. Possibly a look at things to come as Steve Carrell is leaving the show after this season. If they can get Gervais to play David Brent again and be the boss at Dunder-Mifflin, then the show might just survive for a few more seasons. I am very excited for the things to come on this show, especially after the last few seasons have just been okay.

I Love This Album:
This is a new thing I will be doing from time to time. I call it, "I Love This Album." Last year I received a record player for my birthday and since then I have put together a small, yet good collection. So every once in a while I will pick an album that I love and talk about it while I listen to it.

Today's album is Deja vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. I have wondered for a very long time how Neil Young sings like that, and I have never been able to figure it out. The guy is amazing. This is one of my favorite albums by far. I could listen to this all day and all night.

If you own a record player and you don't own this album, you are an idiot. Leave now, and go buy it, it's that good. That's all for me today, have a great Friday! Goodbye.

Home of the Seventh Post

This is my seventh post on this blog. Why is that significant? Because the two other blogs I had on this site before combined for a total of six posts. So already I've outdone myself. Also I have more then doubled the viewers from those two blogs combined. Let me take a moment to celebrate my accomplish............... Ok, let's continue.

My secondary goals for this year
The other day I wrote about my number one goal of 2011. Today I will tell you my secondary goals. First, I want to quit smoking. Check that, I need to quit smoking. It has consumed me more then I ever thought it would. I get in my car, light a cigarette. I go out, and I smoke. I drink, and I smoke. This needs to end. So I have come up with a method to quit. No patch, no gum, no cold turkey(I never understood how eating cold turkey helps you quit smoking). Instead I will go back to the source. How did I get into smoking? I was drinking and someone handed me a cigarette. So I started to smoke every time I drank. That's how I will quit. I will only smoke when I drink to cut back. Then one time I will drink without smoking and that will be the end of it.

Second, I need to cut back on caffeine. I drink way too much pop, and it's starting to effect me. I have the worst heartburn I have ever had. It keeps me up at night which means I have less energy the next day which means I drink more pop to get more energy. Rinse, lather, repeat. It's a vicious circle that needs to end. I plan on cutting down to only drinking pop with meals. No more pop/snack combinations.

Third, I would like to start working out. I need to start doing some form of physical activity. My health is terrible these days. I am in the worst physical shape of my life. And I hate it. I'm not saying I want to get ripped and be a big muscular guy. I just want to be thin again. We have a treadmill and I need to start using it.

I can't do this stuff alone. I've tried and failed. So I'm asking you guys to help out. Push me to accomplish these goals. If you see me smoking or drinking pop, tell me to stop. I'll probably say no at first, but the more you say it the more I'll listen. Let me know if you want to help me out. I'm gonna need all the help I can get.

That's all for me today. Please comment if you would like. I will see you tomorrow. Goodbye.

Home of the Rick Roll

I just bought a Rick Astley album that consists strictly of five different versions of the song "Never gonna give you up." Why? I couldn't resist. It's a Rick Astley album, already awesome. Then you add the fact that album is his greatest song remixed five different ways and it becomes the holy grail of Rick Astley albums. One of the songs on the album is remixed by the Extra Beat Boys. Now I have no idea who they are, but with a name like that I know I won't be disappointed.

You can try to tell me that's not awesome, but you would just be wrong my friend. I am just blown away by how amazing this thing is.

I can honestly not think of anything else to say today, my mind is just completely consumed with trying to figure out what it is I just bought. So that's gonna be all for today, have a good Wednesday. Goodbye.

Home of the Clinically Insane

I think America is losing their minds. In fact, I know it. Three things have happened recently that made me realize what little brains people have left are no longer being put to good use. Foist, a man was fired from a Chicago area car dealership for wearing a Packers tie. Second, a basketball player for West Virginia quit on the team and left the bench in the middle of a game. To make things worse his name was Danny Jennings. Way to trash that great last name of yours, you loser. Third, a player for the Washington Wizards didn't realize until the second quarter of last night's game that his shorts were on backwards. I know the Wizards are having a rough season, but dude, strings go in the front. Sometimes people's stupidity amazes me.

My biggest goal of 2011.
If you recall way back in my very first post I stated how bored I am with the city I'm currently living in. I believe I said, "I'm over" it. I'm not sure exactly, that was quite a long time ago. Well today I'm here to say that I am going to do something about that. By this time next year I want to either be living somewhere else or have a plan in motion to move somewhere. The only thing I need to find out now is where do I go? What city shall my destination be? I've always had a good relationship with the city of Chicago so that tops my list. I am also intrigued by the city of Des Moines. Other places that would be at the top of my list include: Minneapolis-St. Paul, Kansas City, and St. Louis. But why stop there? Why not just leave the entire midwest in my rearview? I could go somewhere like Seattle, Southern California(you name a city, it doesn't make a difference), or even New York. Now this all may sound like wishful thinking, but I am serious about making this happen. I feel I just need a change of scenery. A fresh start is in the making, I can feel it. I get excited just by the prospect of moving away. I've lived in the same place my entire life and I want to experience some other places before it's too late. Maybe I'll just move to Canada. Vancouver seems like a cool place. If you have any other ideas or places I missed, or just ways to make it happen, leave me a comment. And damn it, let's make this happen!!

Home of the Bears

I do understand that the Bears lost yesterday. But with all the talk afterwards I can't help but defend my team. Yes, at the time I thought Cutler should've been playing. That was until I learned today that he may have torn his MCL. That's kind of a big deal. With that information I now see that it was not a mistake to sit Cutler. The mistake came when the Bears penciled in Todd Collins' name as the second string QB on the depth chart. The name in that slot should have been Caleb Hanie. Hanie has more talent in his little pinky then Collins has in his whole body. Finally, it makes me angry that other NFL players were criticizing Cutler on Twitter. Note to those "professionals", it's very easy to criticize when you are sitting at home, Cutler led his team further than any of you have ever made it. Maybe instead of questioning his toughness you should consider what you did wrong to not make this far.

Back to the actual Bears. I am very happy they made it this far. If you would've told me in the preseason that the Bears would be hosting the NFC Championship game I would've said you're out of your damn mind. I'm very happy with the progress this team made this year. They will only get better from here. Add a couple guys here and there and they will be solid for years to come. I know I should be mad that my team is done for the year, but I'm not. I can't help but be happy with what the Bears accomplished this season. It was a great time, they made it very fun to be a fan.

Now we wait, two whole weeks until the next meaningful NFL game. Sure I'll watch the Pro Bowl but that game means nothing. We have two weeks to build all the hype for what should be a very exciting game to watch. I will make my prediction right now before all the hype and meaningless stats cloud everyone's minds. To me this is an easy choice. I'm taking the Pittsburgh Steelers. They have been there before and they know how to win it. Also, it is their time once again. They won Super Bowl XL, Super Bowl XLIII, now they will win Super Bowl XLV. They are the San Antonio Spurs of the NFL without being boring. Final score: Steelers - 28 Packers - 24.

That's all for me today, feel free to leave comments. I want to hear what other people might have to say about Cutler or the Super Bowl. Thanks for reading. Goodbye.

Home of the Hungover

Is it possible to drink in the daytime and be hungover at night? I'm here to say yes, it is. That being said, I will be back tomorrow with a full post. Until then, take a breather, relax, and listen.

Home of the Immune

It's January 22nd folks. Steven Jennings has yet to be sick this winter. I'm beginning to wonder if I have underestimated how awesome my immune system is. Usually by now I've had atleast two colds. Nothing. I wake up some mornings with the sniffles or a sore throat, and an hour later I feel perfect. To quote Bill Murray from Groundhog Day, "I'm a god, I'm not the god.. I don't think."

Moving on, everyone has been talking about the Bears-Packers game coming up tomorrow. And by everyone I mean I think I even heard my dog bark "Go Bears!" the other day. It's that serious. So how could I not talk about it? Simply put, I'm excited. Tomorrow can not come soon enough. All the talk all week and now I'm just ready for the game. The Packers come in really hot, yet the Bears aren't necessarily cold seeing as how they are 8-2 after the bye week, including last weeks big win against Seattle. I predict that the winner of this game will win the Super Bowl, it's that big of a game.

One quick thing before I go. I've had some big issues with ESPN and the decisions that company has been making lately. First of all, they bring in Eric Mangini to talk about the new Browns head coach after Mangini was just fired by the Browns. Second, the other day they had a white guy and a black guy debating whether Blake Griffin is black or white. It's uncomfortable ESPN, knock it off.

In case you don't know who Blake Griffin is, you can be the judge of what race he is.

Home of the Crave

Some things are inevitable for everybody. Death, taxes, and cravings. We all crave something at some point in our lives. Whatever it may be, big or small, we all have cravings. This is a craving of mine, and by this I mean this blog I am in the midst of writing. To start things off let me tell you a little bit about myself and why I'm writing this blog.

If you don't know me my name is Steven Charles McMichael III. However, if you do know me my name is Steven Jennings I. I think that's all you need to know about me right now. Now I'll get to why I am writing this thing called blog.

I had a revelation a couple weeks ago. I am completely bored with my life. I am not depressed, and I will repeat for clearification reasons, I am not depressed. In fact, I'm probably happier then I've ever been. I'm just bored. I'm completely over the city I live in. Nothing ever happens, it's quite boring. I need some excitement in my life. So I'm writing a blog. Just as a little something extra. A little more juice for my breakfast if you will. I see this as a way to get out of my boring routine of everyday and do something for myself.

Now you may be asking yourself, "Steven, what could this blog possibly be about?" Well I'm glad you asked, and I will tell you. I have written various sports blogs in the past so I guess there will be a little of that. I watch movies all the time so I will talk about that. I also love listening to music so everyday I will finish off my entry with a thing I call, "What I'm listening to and you should too." Also, from time to time I will talk about what's going on with me, and I will try to do so without being narcissistic and conceded. Bear with me and feel free to call me out when you think I am violating that principle. That shall be all for today. It's nice to meet you, I think we will get along just fine. Goodbye.
